And, since Vaughan here was willing to point it out, this was also the day that Thich Quang Duc chose to act as a Martyr by burning himself to death. While the man was himself a Mahayana protesting the South Vietnamese government in 1963, this man is protesting the Chinese occupation of Tibet.

Two fairly different branches of Buddhism, both of whom had laypeople and clergy more than willing to fight for their rights to religious expression. I guess this is an impromptu memorial, isn't it?

Note that the only alterations were a few more pronounced lacerations on his face, and shackles instead of handcuffs (this was done for visual effect)

The point of this piece was to represent "Intolerance" as accurately as possible. This was for a Religion class project this year.

However, the point of the project was originally to highlight bigotry towards the Catholic Church. Since I neither care about Catholicism nor the protection of its ideals from Intolerance through the use of forced propaganda, I decided to do a picture portraying a Tibetan Buddhist Monk in chains.

This was drawn with the words "If only intolerance was THIS obvious", which I've omitted because it's not particularly good-looking lettering. If I choose to digitally re-draw this, I might expand the canvas and write it in.

Done in pencil over the course of 4 hours. Blood in Pencil Crayon.
